Oldest Wooster painting heirloom ties to European master
A half inch thick mahogany panel painting of a bright vase of flowers, about 1.5 feet square, is claimed as Wooster’s oldest oil and only panel work. Owned by Capt. Lemuel Jeffries, it came from Europe via Mrs. King’s auction. The attributed artist Espinosa Jancitato Jeronimo de (1600 1680 Valencia) studied with Ribalta, with works in Valencia churches and in St Domingo chapel.
