Board action on sheriff bills and prisoner costs

County commissioners again acted on Sheriff Brown bills noting the sheriff’s costs for boarding prisoners can be paid from his own bill. They directed costs be deducted from his account and praised Prosecuting Attorney Carlin and the local police for their efforts to recapture escaped prisoners. The proceedings remained closed, with officials satisfied by their stance.

Passenger conductor killed by shifter near West Penn depot

Andrew Bbatgh, a veteran Pennsylvania Line conductor, was killed Sunday night while walking from the Allegheny yards toward the West Penn depot to catch an accommodation train. The assailant, described as a shifter, struck him as he traveled through Havenville, Pa. The victim resided in Havenville and was known as one of the line’s oldest and best conductors.
