Daniel H aeter of Greene Township Wayne County shares a Civil War saga born February 12 1843 in Penns Valley near Astonburg Center County Pennsylvania. He joined Company D 148th Pennsylvania Volunteers in 1862 served from Fredericksburg to Chancellorsville where he was wounded thrice and nearly died. He carried injuries homeward through Mower Hospital Philadelphia and Chestnut Hill. Lincoln suspended habeas corpus allowing his father to try to recall him. He voted for Lincoln and McClellan in 1864 and later lived in Georgetown before running for sheriff on the Prohibition ticket.
The Westfield Indiana Ladies publish a Woman's Edition dated April 8, 1896 filled with matters of vital importance to women. A correspondent writes praising Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy for croup colds and bronchitis. Laubach and Boyd, druggists, offer 26 and 60 cent bottles.
The newly organized vocal society under Miss Ida Hough gave its first public appearance in a well attended Luther an church program. Despite the star soloist Lenore Sherwood’s absence the concert showcased strong choral work, praised Miss Hough’s directing and featured performances by Mrs Edith Mangery Mrs Elizabeth Hoss and other local talents amid encores and a popular double quartette number.
