George B. Herring of Marsfield won contracts for Forge Street and Buchtel Avenue. He will close brick work in Canton then start in Akron, aiming to have brick in Akron and distributed by April. All workers will be Akron citizens except the foreman from Manafield.
James Miller admitted before Mayor Jeffries to threatening to strike T A Crow at the Taggart schoolhouse. He paid 8d and costs. A jury hearing yesterday involved James E Elliott vs John Meer over possession of a barn behind the Hotel Wayne, where Elliott held a lease. The jury awarded Elliott six dollars in damages. Ro McKinney and John Morr appeared for Elliott and Meer respectively.

Datton Feb 17 Special Mr Sam Hoot died at the hospital in Columbus after erysipelas. Miss Eliza Homan, paralyzed for over a year, died Thursday. Funeral held at M E church with ladies of General Gibson Circle conducting at the cemetery. Attending were Henry Homan and wife Akron Harley Homan and wife Obid Sours and wife John Boigegrain and wife Ida and Lizzie Sours. Edward Farker of Meadville noted as son and sensor reference. funeral date not yet arranged.
Leander Jerome Critchfield, a prominent Columbus lawyer and former Ohio official reporter, died at 8 a.m. Wednesday February 14 after a brief illness at his residence 268 East Broad Street. He leaves two children, Kila Short and George Critchfield. Born January 13 1827 in Danville Knox County, he practiced law in Delaware and Columbus, served as prosecuting attorney of Delaware County, official reporter for the Ohio Supreme Court, coauthored Revised Statutes of Ohio, and helped nominate President Hayes. The Franklin County Bar Association will memorialize him. courts will adjourn at noon in his honor.

Simpson, attorney for the plaintiff in the Wayne Common Pleas suit against the C L W Railway Co. for the killing of Wm H Adams, also filed a case in Summit County Common Pleas arising from the Warwick wreck of last November. A Massillon union convention assembled to decide on rejoining the United Mine Workers after a year of split with an independent group led by President Mossop.
