Wayne County Agricultural Society will build a new hog barn and horse stables to improve fair facilities. Directors expect action this year or next, while recent report shows the society reduced debt and starts with funds despite a small deficit last year.
O V Gardiner and Albert Wilhelm as trustees of Christs Reform ed Church, Orrville, by attorney George A Starn, filed in Common Pleas Court a petition for an order to sell the present church property and for authority to encumber the new church and lot for 8000 dollars. They argue the new property is unsuitable and can be sold to best advantage.
Lattasburg residents report the saw mill north of town changing hands from Grose to William Lehr of New Pittsburg, who will keep a mill on site for farmers. A fire at Dr May's residence caused by chimney sparks spread across the roof but was halted within half an hour by bucket brigades and neighbor help. Credit goes to local women for steady assistance. the property is insured with Columbus Co.
Members of Company D of the 8th Regiment O N G were inspected by Captain W Eddy on Monday evening in Wooster. The visit found the command in good order and the inspection satisfactory. Captain Limb allowed the men to elect their non commissioned officers, selecting John Miller Rex McSweeney and Albert Wilson.
On Saturday Clerk of Courts J Harrard released a statement listing names of parties with unclaimed costs in his hands and amounts owed, including Anna Anderson 300 dollars, Mrs Carnahan 2360, W A Goodwin 0.20, David Hoover 3.90, Ed Lake 2.20, J S McCoy 0.94, D A Palton 3.20, W A Wilson 1, and many others. The money is annual costs paid in during 1907 and payable to the named individuals or their estates upon claim.
The Funck Company Uniformed Rank members will soon wear new uniforms from the Mack Tailoring Company. The splendid attire, stored in cases, will make the unit stand out when they appear. Wooster residents will undoubtedly notice the stylish display.
Collectors for the Republican Party Sam T Swarts and wife Mrs Swarts suffered severe hand burns when curtains in the attire room caught fire at about 6 p m Sunday. Swarts and his wife fought the blaze, saving the home before neighbors intervened. the fire damaged a couch and a rug, with property later insured and adjusted by Mayor Van Nest and Charles Van Nest.
A Monday county meeting approved a list of expenses including burial for RS Jackson, stamps for the Auditor, road and ditch work, printing for clerks and auditors, court costs, and various road and bridge projects. Named contractors include Mohican Oil & Gas Co for courthouse work, Collier Printing Co, The Commercial Printing Co, and Barrett Bros. Blanks. Several items reference Chester and Funk or Dalton roads, with total disbursements in the several dollars.

A Republican executive committee meeting at Shreve Monday afternoon recommended R. H. Critchfield for the postmaster position of Shreve. Other applicants included Merkel George Campbell Roe Critchfield and the current postmaster Peter Housel. the nomination of Critchfield was made unanimous after ballots and presentations by all candidates.
The Board of Control of the Experiment Station appointed Dr A Lehman to the Department of Nutrition. Lehman, not Canadian, studied in Germany and India and held multiple senior chemist roles. He begins around January 16 and will work with Dr E B Forbes on organic phosphorus compounds research.
