Dalton Water Works Plant Accepted By Council
Engineer L E Chapin reported 6435.06 spent to date on the water works plant and the council accepted the project from H D Shannon with praise. 7200 feet of mains laid 14 hydrants installed and machinery costs totaling 525 plus reservoir 1271.39. The council ordered old reservoir emptied and refilled, repaired a broken main hydrant, and erected a brick engine house 16 by 18. A volunteer fire department was organized and a new hose purchased to provide ample fire protection and enhanced town safety. The pump achieved 2000 gallons per hour, filling the reservoir within three days as water flowed strong from hydrants.
