After months at large near Smithville the famous coyote was shot on Saturday. He eluded dogs until snow revealed tracks leading hunters on a long trail across farms and woods. Homer Ramseyer and companions finally killed the big animal, weighing about twenty pounds, after it paused to eat a rabbit. Farmers had feared raids on poultry and pigs though there was no threat to humans.

Two young boys played near a creek by Smithville on November 28. John Edwin Zimmerman, five, fell into a deep hole and nearly drowned until Willard Brant, about six, crawled from a log and pulled him to safety. Mrs Hutchinson then returned them to Zimmerman’s mother. Both boys were frightened, but Zimmerman thanked Brant later for his bravery.
In Medina County, three year old Raymond, grandson of William Ball and wife near Doylestown, wandered from his mother while hunting rabbits. A two hour search by family, residents, and Sheriff Pat Hutchinson found him about a mile from his grandparents’ home, unaware of danger and busy chasing rabbits.
