Train Jumped Track and Killed Railway Workers

Two Albany engineers died and several railroad workers were injured when a New York Central fast train derailed at Gulf Bridge, New York. Engineer Robert Ffy and Fireman Peter Conley were killed. several World, Sun, Rochester News, American and Journal staffers were injured. The train, at full speed, derailed on a sharp bridge curve, plunging the engine into the road embankment and the lead car down the slope.

Two masked highwaymen held up an electric trolley at the west end of Adams street. The motorman and conductor were robbed of $14 and their watches. Police pursued leads but details remain scarce.

Many Shots Fired in Union and Nonunion Clash

Wheeling, Aug 17. Striking machinists clashed with nonunion workers at Riverside plant of United States Steel. About 20 new workers had been brought in, boarding houses of nonunionists were attacked and barricaded, and many shots were fired. Several injured, including spectator Clay Hoover, while police were unable to intervene. A fresh outbreak feared.
