A masked mob battered the Lexington jail and lynched Charles Salyers and Harry Gates after the pair killed George Johnson, a prominent farmer who had caught them stealing his chickens. Senator James McMillan of Michigan died at his Manchester cottage Sunday morning from heart failure. Springfield Aug 11 The coroner's jury in the case of J H Riley commissioner of the lake drainage district murdered last Thursday night held his wife Fila Riley to the grand jury on a shooting charge. Gowger, son in law, could not be found. letters said to pass between Gowger and Riley's wife allegedly influenced the decision. Building Scorched Pittsburg Aug 11 The Schwarzchild and Sulzberger building fire proved less costly than first estimated with final loss around 10 499 dollars and damage to the structure reduced by investigators.
