Interesting Life of Henry Kauffman Dies at 33

Henry J. Kauffman died Wednesday at noon at his North Market Street home, aged 33 years 8 months 15 days. Funeral services were held at 2 p m Sunday from his residence under Wooster lodge I O O F with interment in Wooster cemetery. A Wooster resident for over a decade, he was active in business and various orders including Odd Fellows, Knights of Honor, Knights of Pythias, Good Templars, and Red Men. As longtime Wooster lodge treasurer and a trusted official, he served as secretary treasurer in multiple orders for forty years. He married Ann Mentzer in 1848, who died three years ago. They had thirteen children, four died in infancy. Surviving children include Jacobus, Mrs. Mary Zook, Frank, Harry, Mrs. Emme Randall, Charles A., Elizabeth, and Katharine Kauffman, with ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was a German Lutheran and Sunday school librarian, and served as quartermaster of the 169th Regiment VU V V L during the Civil War.

The Canton Wright Patriarchs Militants hosted visiting Canton Canton chiefs Wednesday night. They met at the depot and were escorted to the Odd Fellows temple. A sumptuous banquet preceded a ceremony conferring the first degree, praised by all chevaliers for the hospitable Canton hosts.

Old Soldier Dead in Wooster After Long Suffering

Eli Thompson, Civil War veteran and longtime Wooster resident, died Thursday evening at his home on High Street after months of age related illness. Born in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, he was 83 and a month old. Funeral from his residence Sunday at 1 p.m. Interment in Wooster cemetery. Survived by wife and three children, George, Jennie, and Frank, all of Wooster. He served in the 16th Ohio Volunteer Infantry and later managed the Wooster Gas Co plant.

Railway Agents Change at Shreve and New Waterford

James A Harrington, longtime Pennsylvania linen agent at Shreve for fifteen years, is transferred to Leetonis for a higher salary. Orrville Reformed Church Contract Let to Deneke

The Reformed church in Orrville awarded contracts to Charles Deneke for excavations and brick work, H D Shannon for plumbing and stone, and J D Mullet for roofing. The brick church will seat 860 in the auditorium and 850 in the Sunday School room. Total cost estimated between 24,000 and 28,000 dollars.

Applecreek Presbyterian Church Annual Meeting Report

The Apple creek presbytery annual meeting reported an opening debt of 136 dollars and year end with all bills paid and 115 dollars in hand.
