Henry J. Kauffman died Wednesday at noon at his North Market Street home, aged 33 years 8 months 15 days. Funeral services were held at 2 p m Sunday from his residence under Wooster lodge I O O F with interment in Wooster cemetery. A Wooster resident for over a decade, he was active in business and various orders including Odd Fellows, Knights of Honor, Knights of Pythias, Good Templars, and Red Men. As longtime Wooster lodge treasurer and a trusted official, he served as secretary treasurer in multiple orders for forty years. He married Ann Mentzer in 1848, who died three years ago. They had thirteen children, four died in infancy. Surviving children include Jacobus, Mrs. Mary Zook, Frank, Harry, Mrs. Emme Randall, Charles A., Elizabeth, and Katharine Kauffman, with ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was a German Lutheran and Sunday school librarian, and served as quartermaster of the 169th Regiment VU V V L during the Civil War.

Noble Yarman, a merchant tailor, installed a Hoffman steam pressing machine on Thursday. The device is touted as a marvel, capable of finishing garments faster and smoother than the traditional hand method.
John Zauge, longtime employee of J H B Danford funeral director, buys the late Albert Eyman's undertaking business at Applecreek and will move his family there. Zauge is well acquainted in the county and expected to succeed.
The Canton Wright Patriarchs Militants hosted visiting Canton Canton chiefs Wednesday night. They met at the depot and were escorted to the Odd Fellows temple. A sumptuous banquet preceded a ceremony conferring the first degree, praised by all chevaliers for the hospitable Canton hosts.
Eli Thompson, Civil War veteran and longtime Wooster resident, died Thursday evening at his home on High Street after months of age related illness. Born in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, he was 83 and a month old. Funeral from his residence Sunday at 1 p.m. Interment in Wooster cemetery. Survived by wife and three children, George, Jennie, and Frank, all of Wooster. He served in the 16th Ohio Volunteer Infantry and later managed the Wooster Gas Co plant.
James A Harrington, longtime Pennsylvania linen agent at Shreve for fifteen years, is transferred to Leetonis for a higher salary. C Leyda, formerly of Wooster and agent at New Waterford for about 18 years, will take Harringtons place at Shreve. RK Beatty will succeed Leyda at New Waterford. Changes occur within the next week.
The Reformed church in Orrville awarded contracts to Charles Deneke for excavations and brick work, H D Shannon for plumbing and stone, and J D Mullet for roofing. The brick church will seat 860 in the auditorium and 850 in the Sunday School room. Total cost estimated between 24,000 and 28,000 dollars.

Butler county detective RB Stewart obtained a warrant for Clyde Blake on a delicate charge. Blake was located two miles from a relative’s residence, working for a farmer in Chester township. He admitted identity and agreed to return to Butler to face the charge, with Deputy Sheriff Ault accompanying him.
Several hundred people gathered around the bandstand on the public square last evening to enjoy the university band concert. The band showed marked improvement in playing and is expected to perform again one evening this week before the university closes.
Canton Canton No 80 welcomed Canton Wright No 77 of Wooster at the I O U F temple on South Cleveland ayonne Wednesday evening. The Wooster delegation joined at Penny Givanta station at 6 80 to escort the party to the temple where a banquet was served. Canton Canton then presented the Fastiarsh Militant du Rres, with smoker and grapho phone selections under Major M U Crosby. The Wooster party returned home on the 10 065 train. Committees were led by Major M Q Crosby and C D Granger with F C Roth, assisted by Cantons’ wives.
Phyllis Folcom edged rivals to win the W C T U contest last night with a narrow margin. Judges noted even scores across voice, articulation, memory, and stage presence. Mrs Kope trained the class, and all speakers showed mature effort, earning each contestant a Crusader subscription.
