Whist Outing Boosts New Playground Fund at Winthrop Hotel
The Winthrop Vacat Club held a whist event on September 10 at the New Winthrop Hotel to aid the summer playground fund. prizes were donated by local ladies and gentlemen and Souvenirs awarded to multiple attendees. The New England Women’s Press Association of Boston later gathered at the same hotel for a luncheon and tours of local historic sites in Winthrop.

Frost Public Library and Exhibition Notes
The Frost Public Library hours are 1.5 to 9 p.m. on weekdays. The Winthrop Beach delivery station at 503 Shirley Street handles book reservations on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Mrs. Edward A. Buss donated sixty five large photographs from Captain C. T. Haskell depicting Bombay subjects. a special exhibition will be held. Several notable books and periodicals are listed as part of holdings and new arrivals.

Improvement Association Meeting Elects Trustees and Approves Fundraisers
The Winthrop Improvement and Historical Association met Monday with Joseph L. Newton presiding. Channing Toward elected trustee to fill Sawyer’s term. Judith Lythgoe appointed to Deane Winthrop House committee. Treasurer Adams reported $66.05 from two Sewing Bee sales. $50 donated toward the mortgage reducing it to $850. New members include Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Luscombe. Junior chair George E. Mitchell reported on member gardens. Playground committee report accepted with funds approval for fall and winter. Sewing bee planned for afternoon and supper at 6:30 at next meeting on October 4.

Restaurant Keeper Robbed of $300 at Winthrop Cafe
Early Tuesday morning the safe in the office of McDonald’s Cafe on Shirley Street in Winthrop Beach was robbed of 300 dollars. The safe had a combination lock and was left unlocked Monday night. The thief overlooked several hundred dollars more in the safe.
