Winthrops Beachfront Blaze Devastates Two Hotels
A midnight fire destroyed Crest Hall Hotel and Ocean View Hotel in Winthrop causing about 200000 dollars in losses. One woman, Mrs. Henry Dumont, died. others escaped amid water shortages and heavy aid from East Boston Revere Chelsea and Fort Banks troops. The blaze, fed by low water pressure, spread to several cottages and drew thousands as crews battled flames through dawn.
