Elected Grand Knight at Winthrop Council K of C

James C. Higgins was elected grand knight by Winthrop Council K of C at its annual election on Wednesday night. Officers elected include John J. Barter DGE William L. Nolan B Julian Sties Daniel Honan J Stewart Ring Albert Welch Joseph Naulty John H. Steele T J Maloney John Cotter John F Fulhan with Grand Knight Thomas A Maloney and Higgins as delegates to the State convention. Alternates are Dr Harvey A Kelley and William Marsh. Induction into office will occur on the first Wednesday in November.

Rangers Trip to Needham Reveals Private Collections

Twelve Rangers joined Mrs. W. W. Peck on an autumn excursion to Needham visiting Mr. Mitchell’s world curios, then Mr. T. O. Fuller’s bird collection and fall woods. Next trip set for October 15 to Boone Lake with box lunches. depart North Station at 8 09 a.m.

Winthrop High football under Coach Mantor lists home games on Oct. 3 Belmont Oct. 22 Swampscott Oct. to be announced Arlington Nov. 4 and Boston Latin Nov. 11 with Thanksgiving at Revere. Manning Harvey Wedding In Winthrop Church

Grace Manning and C Joseph Harvey wed at St John the Evangelist Church with Rev John H Griffin officiating. The couple plans a White Mountains tour then reside at 94 Lincoln Street. Bride from East Boston, groom from Winthrop and Waltham, both connected to local groups and the Boston Globe staff.

Crossman and McKenney Wed at Cottage Hill Home

Nellie Maude McKenney and Albert Proctor Crossman were married Wednesday at their Cottage Hill residence by Rev. W. W. Peck of the Unitarian Church. After a wedding trip to Lakewood and Atlantic City they will be at home after November 1. Crossman is a Boston clothing dealer and active in Elks and Winthrop Yacht Club.

Expensive for State Burden on Mothers Aid Program

The Boston overseers of the poor estimate 40 000 would be needed for the rest of the year to fund mothers with dependent children under a new legislative act. Statewide costs may reach nearly a million dollars annually. Officials call the act theoretical but impractical, full of holes and confusing for local authorities.

Kirmess at Pleasant Park Yacht Club Draws Big Help

The Pleasant Park Yacht Club held a Kirmess last week to fund clubhouse expenses. About 200 children enjoyed afternoon games and a small entertainment with refreshments on the back piazza. An evening supper with wind protection and a lively crowd followed. Proceeds supported club costs as two years of operation strain finances. A fortune reading by Mrs. John Mullen drew strong patronage.

Winthrop Improvement and Historical Association Meeting

The October meeting of the Winthrop Improvement and Historical Association will be held on Tuesday evening October 7 at the Deane Winthrop House. Supper at 6 30 and a business meeting at 8. Plans for an active winter will be discussed. Martha L Eveleth Secretary.
