Marking Veterans Graves Progress by Local Spanish War Veterans
Commander George Russell of the Spanish War Veterans led efforts to identify veterans buried in unmarked graves and obtain headstones through Congress. Fifteen stones were issued. thirteen Civil War veterans, one Spanish War veteran Charles W. Stowe, and one 1848 Mexican War veteran John Carney.

The Ladies Association of Spanish War Veterans will meet at War Veterans Hall at 8 30 a.m. to present a Union Jack to the Spanish War Veterans and place laurel wreaths on the Columbia square boulder with Civil War Veterans, eight girls, then decorate graves with G A R members, followed by a banquet at War Veterans Hall and a donation to the Civil War Veterans and a fifty dollar memorial gift to the Spanish War Veterans Hiker.
