Centred on the fire that destroyed Centre grammar school graduates at Centre and Shirley schools receive diplomas. Dr O E Johnson and F F Cook with Superintendent F A Douglas present diplomas to a large cohort including Nancy S Brigham Grace E Brown and many others.
An alumni gathering of about 250 members and School Committee members filled the high school assembly hall on a Wednesday evening. President Joseph Davison welcomed graduates and guests as they were presented, with a lively program featuring Rosetti Key and violinist O C Roos among the performers.
Citizens of Winthrop are urged to consider the Point Shirley project now nearing completion. The land has been terraced and graded with streets and waterfront avenue added, plus thousands spent on landscaping. Title deeds are guaranteed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and prices are attractively low. A halftone bird's eye view can be sent upon request.
The last alumni dinner included Carl Bohm's Canta line and Victor Herbert's Janzontla as encore. Miss Claramond Thompson, class of 1905, sang Daffodils Have Come with a pleasing encore. George Fuller Paine drew applause and two encores. Mrs. George Waite Jennings and Leon Hitch accompanied. Nutter's Orchestra provided four pieces for dancing, with punch and wafers served. Floor director Charles Ide led aides Mollie Dunn Eulalie Church ill Florence Key and others to ensure a good time.
