In Winthrop the town votes to add $70 for a motor driven ladder truck after approving $5000 earlier. Flag Day observances were praised and the Fourth of July celebrations are being organized by the committee with community call to contribute.
The 4th of July Association committee inches toward final plans as wires hinder parade routes. A Boston Cambridge Chelsea mayoral and state officials lineup as judges for a 4 a.m. parade. Entrants urged to send details to Eugene Cronin with auto owners able to secure entry blanks at public garages.
The pupils of Mme Maud Paradis Lane presented a pleasing recital Friday evening at the Cliff House aided by Mrs Therese A M Geough and Miss Jessie Mary French. The program featured Van de etc. with multiple solo and ensemble numbers by young students, drawing a large crowd of parents and friends.
A pretty home wedding united Miss Florence Sawyer daughter of George D. Sawyer of Shirley Street with Alfred Newall of Concord New Hampshire on Wednesday at 430 pm. Rev Charles W Henry of St Johns Episcopal Church officiated. The bride was given away by her father and her sister served as matron of honor. the groom's brother was best man. A wedding lunch followed. The couple will live in Concord NH.
Cliff House guests plan a full Fourth of July program with a band concert fireworks and refreshments. A general committee will raise funds and oversee details while keeping open house all day for guests and neighbors. Contributions toward the event go to A P Chronquest the hotel clerk and committee treasurer.
Mrs Dennis A. McCarthy and Rev Mother Brigid head of a Geralton West Australia school visit Winthrop High School. They observe American educational methods with plans to introduce them in West Australian schools if practical. Principal Mr Osborne and staff host the delegation. Mother Brigid shows interest in the commercial course.
The Frost Public Library in Winthrop Beach offers weekday hours 1 to 9 PM and exchange of books on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 485 Shirley Street. The catalog lists numerous Civil War era works on Gettysburg including Beecham, Sweetser Burrage, Hanly, Singmaster, and others. Also an invitation to rent houses via the Winthrop Sun and Visitor.
The Motor Boat Muffling Association chartered the motor boat Palm for state police use to enforce muffling laws and curb shore crime from the New Hampshire line to Rhode Island. Captain Grady of Winthrop will command the vessel, equipped with a 90 HP engine, in service until October first. A June enforcement sweep led to the conviction of Edward J. Young of Haverhill, fined five dollars.
