Fourth of July water sports at Lewis Lake feature 14 events

The Fourth of July water sports at Lewis Lake showcase 14 events with 26 prizes. Open to all ages with junior and senior divisions and team tilting and relay events. Entries close July 1 at 6 p.m. Prizes will be exhibited at local stores and winners supply own tubs and canoes for certain races.

Flag Raising At Playstead Public Celebration

Sunday afternoon at 430 the first Playstead flag raising honored the new pole funded by Winthrop children. Park Commissioner H O Thomas led events with Calderwood's band, Denis A McCarthy gave a patriotic poem and talk, and Arthur Thomas raised the flag amid a crowd. Fort Banks soldiers joined the salute as Nettie Stanley sang the Star Spangled Banner.

Neal and Place Marry at St Andrews Orient Heights

Miss Forrest E Place and Mr Alexander S Neal were married at St Andrews Episcopal Orient Heights with Rev George S Fiske officiating. Bridesmaid Florence L Nelson and best man William Lombard attended. The couple received gifts and left for their wedding journey after a reception at the parish house.

Collins Merrill Wedding at St. John the Evangelist

Miss Mary R Collins and James A Merrill were married in a 9 o clock high mass at St John the Evangelist Church. The ceremony was followed by a reception at 242 Lincoln Street and a Maine honeymoon before settling in Winthrop.

Thieves Ransack Winthrop Yacht Club Boats

Thieves landing at the Winthrop Yacht Club during Wednesday night ransacked several boats at the float. They took a sweater from one boat a set of batteries cut a sail from a small craft and carried it away. Inside the clubhouse they took a set of ivory billiard balls and left others untouched. It appears the culprits fled before finishing the raid.

Rangers Trip Away Guests Host Family at Clifton

The Rangers and twenty six family members left Lynn at 10 am last Wednesday for Clifton where they were hosted by Mr and Mrs Frederick Older and their son Archie. They gathered for coffee by the rocks, enjoyed lunch, and then walked to Marblehead to visit the Churn before a fish dinner.
