Flower Day success for Winthrop Visiting Nurse Association
Last Saturday the Winthrop Visiting Nurse Association held its Flower Day with four thousand flowers sold under the supervision of committee chairmen and volunteers. Receipts totaled 325.67 from stations including Centre, Beach, Highlands, Ocean Spray, Playstead, Thornton, Pleasant Street, and Battery, supporting gratuitous nursing, pre natal and child welfare work and Red Cross efforts for soldiers families.

Christian Scientists Form Comforts Committee in Endicott Hall
Winthrop Christian Scientists met in Endicott Hall to organize a Comforts Committee to make garments for soldiers sailors and refugees. Three units of ten women have worked on refugee gear, turning garments over to The Comforts Forwarding Committee at Boston headquarters. Mrs. Marion E. Stevenson was chosen chairman, Mr. Frederick W. Edgett treasurer, Mrs. Anna Addis secretary, with Harry Hogg and Miss Minnette Barker assisting in funds. A starter collection of over $60 occurred, and two sewing machines were donated for ongoing work.

Sixty Two Called to Active Service June 24
Judge Charles J Brown appoints 62 men to active service starting the week of June 24. Fourteen will report to Camp Devens and the rest to Camp Dix New Jersey. They will assemble in Revere and depart from there, not Winthrop as before.

Home Service Branch Formed in Winthrop
A new Home Service branch of the Red Cross met in Winthrop with Leon C. Guptill as chair and a committee including Mrs. A E King and Mrs. Russell Gardner. Headquarters are at Town Hall and the group will aid sailors families, explain laws and benefits, and assist service members with War Risk Insurance and Civil Rights Act issues. A lawyer subcommittee will assist, with sessions at Town Hall Fridays.
