Minerva statue gifted to Winthrop High School by club

The Winthrop Womans Club gathered in the high school assembly hall to see the Minerva statue on the stage, a gift funded by members. President Mrs W D Allen chaired a session announcing forthcoming events including Dean Southwick recitals, a home travel club meeting, a nature class, and a potential physical culture class. Mrs Nellie Strong Stevenson delivered a Wagner Tannhauser lecture with music by Mr Parmelee and piano by Mrs Stevenson. An 80-student gymnastic drill and basketball display followed, with thanks to Principal E D Osborne and Miss Beatrice Key. The January 8 meeting will feature piano duets, mandolin trio, and a short play.

Winthrop Adopts Five Year Street Lighting Contract

Town voters authorize the Suburban Gas and Electric Co to supply all night lighting with Tungsten lamps replacing 95 candle power lamps. The new deal lowers residential rates to 16 cents per kilowatt hour and gas prices to 1.10 per thousand after August 1 1908, with other favorable terms for town buildings and free lighting.

Men’s New Movement Class at First Church Meets Wednesday

The first annual meeting of the Men's Class at First Church Winthrop Street will be held Wednesday at 8 pm. The constitution will be adopted and officers elected, with charter membership for those joining by the meeting. Pastor Rev. Charles Tilton begins a six month course on life as revealed in the Gospel.

Baraca Bible Class Formed At Union Church Supper

A Baraca Bible Class was formed for beach district youths at a supper hosted by Mr. McAllister of the Union Congregational Church. The group targets ages 14 to 100 and aims to guide boys with no Sabbath plans toward church, Sunday school, and Friday prayer meeting. Dr. Weston, Stanley Tamblyn, and Rev. Alexander McKensie spoke at the meeting. charter members include Jene Snow as president and Herbert B.
