Winthrop Yacht Club Names Officers for Next Year

The nominating committee chaired by D. M. Wiseley reports officers slated for January election. Commodore Edgar H. Whitney is renominated, with H. B. Whittier as vice commodore and Charles G. Bird as secretary. Other posts include Charles A. Rouillard treasurer and Frank H. Byrne measurer, plus a board and several committees.

Elks Hold Memorial Service for Daniel F. Callinane

Winthrop Lodge of Elks held a memorial service Sunday in Wadsworth Hall for Daniel F. Callinane who died of heart disease in Manchester New Hampshire. His body was cared for by the Manchester Elks. He leaves a wife and four children. The funeral was at his home 5 Myrtle Avenue with a solemn high mass at St John the Evangelist. Interment followed at Malden. The eulogy was given by William H Barter exalted ruler. The service committee included W W Colson William H Barter Frank P Joyce and others.

Ocean View Hotel Guests and Repairs After Fire

Mrs. I. B. O'Brien improves from pneumonia and hopes to recover. Builders repair the roof after the recent fire. Miss Nellie Wright of New York, a guest, sang as soprano soloist at Mrs. G. H. Tucker’s Jordan Hall recital for the St. Mary Magdalene cantata. A Christmas tree and dinner are planned for next Wednesday with evening entertainment and about thirty outside guests expected.

Talk on China by Stephen W. Nickerson at Baptist vestry

Stephen W. Nickerson of Woodside Avenue spoke on Chinese characteristics at the Baptist vestry last Tuesday evening, during the study close on China led by Rev. Frederick M. White. He described race traits and culture, noted the role of women, dress, and trade, and urged education of Chinese women and railroads expansion, with Chou Back San assisting in an exhibition of Chinese items and flags.

Parsons Elected Winthrop Council Leader at Knights Gathering

George E. Parsons was elected to lead Winthrop Council at the Knights of Columbus annual meeting in Wadsworth Hall Winthrop last Friday. Parsons 32, born in Cambridge, long resident of Winthrop, has served the council in multiple offices and holds memberships in Winthrop Lodge BPOE traveling men associations and a wholesale grocery firm in the area.
