A large Winthrop Red Cross benefit dance was held Tuesday in a hall donated by the Winthrop Elks. Allied flags and Red Cross decor, attire of gowns and officer uniforms, and music marked the evening with attendees including returning Plattsburg corps nurses. A quiet wedding followed at 41 Bates Avenue as Mildred Howland wed W F Noyes in a double ring ceremony conducted by Rev Ralph N Harper.

Fire at 20 Tewksbury Street Threatens Home
Residents of the Winthrop Beach district faced a basement fire of unknown origin in a two story wooden house at 20 Tewksbury Street owned by Mrs. Arthur Hubbard. Mrs. Hubbard and her daughter Edith Hubbard escaped as smoke filled the cellar, a quick alarm and crowd gathered while Chief Woolcott’s crew fought the blaze. Damage is insured, about $700.
