Fort Banks to Three-Company Posts in Boston Coast Defense
Fort Andrews is slated to become the Boston coast artillery district headquarters be cause of central location and superior command control. Forts Banks and Andrews will be three company posts while Strong Warren and Revere stay two company posts, with Standish Heath Independence Winthrop Nahant Deer Island and Gallops Island limited to garrison details unless in battle or drills. The new 152d 153d and 151st companies are forming at Banks Andrews and Revere, with Col. Leverett H. Walker commanding the district and Capt. James F. Howell and Capt. H. D. Todd Jr. as staff.

The Winthrop lawn party at St John the Evangelist Church drew over 1,000 attendees on parish grounds. Rev John H Griffin led committees while children’s events, vaudeville, and athletic contests for boys and girls entertained. prizes were awarded for races, whist, and female and male categories amid decorative lighting and organized booths.

A Bowdoin street home hosted a musicale in honor of Mrs La Drew of Montreal, mother of Mrs Garland. Performances by Mr and Mrs W G Smith Mrs Edmund F Cristopher and the Garlands delighted guests. The Carnation Club elected Mrs Edmund F Cristopher of Bowdoin street as president at W G Smith’s home on June 17.
