Winthrop Improvement and Historical Association met at the Deane Winthrop House with Joseph L. Newton presiding. The playground committee reported receipts of 33 from July 26 at Nautical Gardens and Elks donations of 30 for a slide.

Garden Party Nets Over Ten Thousand For Winthrop Improvement
A garden party at the Deane Winthrop House in Winthrop, hosted by the Winthrop Improvement Sewing Bee, raised over 10500 for town beautification. Fort Banks Band performed, booths were run by noted local women, and proceeds from sales of articles, cake, candy, and refreshments supported district projects.

Members of Wine throp Lodge No. 145 returned from the annual Elks conclave in Los Angeles last Sunday evening. The party led by past exalted ruler Dr. John J. Gibbons included Fred Strachan John J. Fallon and Louis J Miller with his family. Their trip covered the Alaska Yukon Exposition in Seattle a stop in Chicago visits to the Stock Yards and a side trip to Milwaukee before returning home.

Saturday afternoon racing at Winthrop Yacht Club featured various classes. The Idalia won the 25 foot class, The Answer led in first class power boats, Pete won in first class power boats, and Ruth II topped second class power boats amid light southeast wind on EF course.
