Winters Blizzards drop a close district game 3 to 2 at Hamlin after a late field goal by Duane Stewart. Winters fumbled on the 34 yard line and failed to convert, while Hamlin held on to win despite a strong defensive showing by Winters.
The Wild Bunch a Warner Bros release shows at the State Theatre in 1913 West Mexico. Pike Bishop and his gang face obsolescence as time passes them by and a bloody counter revolution rages in Mexico with Deke Thornton as the arch foe. The film is Panavision Technicolor directed by Sam Peckinpah stars Holden Borgnine Ryan OBrien Oates and Dekker with a large supporting cast.
The Dorcas Sunday School Class of the First Baptist Church gathered October 9 at Mrs. R. Whitley’s North Church Street home for a business and social meeting. Mrs. Artie Smith presided with prayer by Mrs. Velma Hart and a hymn at the piano. Refreshments were served to members and visiting couples from California and nearby.
Mr. and Mrs. LaDell Davis spent the past week visiting in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Davis at Sumrall Mississippi, former Winters residents. En route home they called on friends and relatives at several points.

The Diversity Club presented the two act play Great American Clubwoman at Mrs Paul A Corbys home on Thursday October 9. Julia Ward Howe and The Battle Hymn of the Republic were highlighted as a centennial influence. Members and officers then planned attendance at the Heart of Texas District workshop in Ballinger on October 17 and voted to move weekly meetings from 3 30 to 4 p m. The next gathering will be October 23 at Mrs Sam Jones home.

Mrs Mike Gray and her young son Michael flew in Tuesday from Charleston to spend four months with her parents Mr and Mrs Gene Virden. Her husband serves on a tour of duty in the Mediterranean Sea and she will also visit his parents Mr and Mrs J C Gray during her stay.
Members of the Goal Digger Club met Monday at Mrs. Jacobs home to discuss a club project. Pamella Smith presided and Phyllis Smith read the minutes. Debra Carroll gave the treasurer s report and a cake sale was planned. Beckey Mathis led the program. Refreshments served to a group including Carol Jacobs and sponsor Carolyn Black.

The YWA group of Southside Baptist Church met Wednesday afternoon at the church. President Zola Crowley presided with Linda Allen leading singing and Betty Knight giving the opening prayer. Virgie Wade and Linda Allen led the program and plans were made to attend the movie The Restless Ones at Lakeview Baptist Church in San Angelo. Attendees included Zola Crowley Betty Knight Linda Shirley Allen Sandy Bates Mrs Elwood Wade and Mrs Roy Rice.
