Winters Blizzards Play Non Conference Tilt In 1932

Thirty years ago in October 1932 the Winters Blizzards opened conference play against Santa Anna with a 7 to 0 loss at the Runnels County Fair. A San Angelo Bobcats game loomed that night as a non conference challenge. Local bowling was popular and Winters featured multiple teams including Barbers Mechanics Grocerymen and Independent squads. The first Fall Sale at The Fair drew unmatched prices as the Runnels County Fair offered parades contests and exhibits with women award winners Mesdames J M Pyburn Harold Henniger F C Ueckert Pete Davis F D Gardner H E White among others.

Ex Blizzard Players Earn Spots on McMurry Indian Team

Two former Winters Blizzard players gain berths on McMurry College Indians. Fred Austin, a 215 pound senior, starts at No. 1 fullback. William Grissom, a sophomore and former Blizzard, is described as a promising sophomore by Indian mentors.

Fire Damages Hinds and Carlisle Gin in 1937

Riley Marks notes events from October 8 1937 including a fire at Hinds and Carlisle Gin causing about 4000 dollars in damage. New equipment was installed to keep operations going. The Oct 1937 West Texas Fair Duchess Margarite Duncan of Winters is mentioned along with a 16 member Cotton Committee for Runnels County and a 50 dollar appreciation check from the gin to the Winters Volunteer Fire Department. 10487 bales had been ginned and liquor action would make Runnels County bone dry per J W Coates AB Line.

County Historical Society Sets Date For Regular Meet

The Runnels County Historical Society committee met Sunday in Ballinger. A 2 p.m. first Sunday monthly meeting time was set. Reports included preservation work, medallion application for First Presbyterian Church, and marking Civil War veterans graves. A statewide meeting in San Antonio October 12-13 was announced with full schedule.

Regular Meeting of Sub Deb Club Held Monday Night

Judy Smith hosted the regular Sub Deb Club gathering at the Baldwins home Monday evening. After a brief business session Mary Young led the program and scandal was read. Refreshments were served to a list of members and guests. The meeting closed with the benediction.

Sans Souci Dinner Club Meeting At Leeman Home

Sans Souci Dinner Club members gathered at the Leeman residence with hosts the M. E. Leemans and co hosts the Fred Youngs. The table featured white cutwork linen and a centerpiece of white carnations in milk glass. Guests sat at linen dressed foursome tables and played games of forty two after dinner.
