The Goal Diggers Club held its regular Monday night meeting at the Charles Mathis home with Marcene as hostess. Roll was called and members discussed plans for the Christmas float. Funeral Rites For Mrs Will Porter Held In Crews Men
Funeral services for Mrs. Will Porter 67 longtime county resident were held Monday at Crews Methodist Church. Officiating were Rev. Howard Johnson and Rev. Fisher. Burial followed in Truitt Cemetery. Porter died Saturday noon after a stroke a second fatal stroke followed a prior one. She was born May 3 1892 in Green Forest Arkansas and lived in Mills Runnels counties since 1903. Survivors include her husband two sons Edgar and Bernice four grandchildren eight sisters and one brother. Three of five children preceded her in death.

Literary and Service Club Meets in Nichols Home
The Literary and Service Club gathered Thursday November 19 at the home of Mr and Mrs H M Nichols with Mrs Jerry English co hosting. Mrs Claude Tatum opened with a prayer and roll call on current events in Russia. Mrs Floyd Sims read the constitution and by laws and Mrs H K Flathmann led the business meeting. The program, Russian History and Government Since 1924, featured Stalin s Rise to Power by Mrs E L Craig. She traced Stalin s youth and motives noting his ruthlessness as a key factor in his ascent.
