Diversity Club Program Focused On Public Health

The Diversity Club met Thursday at the Smith home to discuss Public Health Affairs. President Mrs. Sam Jones led a short business session and the club voted to donate 25 to Winters Civil Defense. Mrs. J. E. Smith named to Civil Defense committee.

Mrs. J. L. Kennedy Dies At 84 In Winters

Mrs. John L. Kennedy 84 a longtime Runnels County resident died at home here. Funeral held Saturday at First Baptist Church with Rev B T Shoumaker officiating burial in Lakeview Cemetery. Survived by husband four sons one daughter seven grandchildren seven great grandchildren and a half sister. Pallbearers listed from Winters Ballinger and nearby towns. Dr and Mrs F L Lemley of Dallas visited in Winters home.

Funeral Services Held Wednesday For J. W. Hendrick

John W. Hendrick 9 of Wilmeth Community died Monday evening from a heart attack. Funeral at Spill Memorial Chapel Winters was led by J. W. Gipson pastor of the 9th Street Church of Christ Bal linger. Burial followed in Crews Cemetery. Survivors include wife Ellis Roach, two daughters Mrs. A K Broadstreet and Mrs Ed Stafford, one son preceded him, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

VFW Auxiliary Hold Special Memorial Service

Members of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Winters Post VFW held a special memorial service at the post home for Lau ry Stanfield a charter member of the local auxiliary. A draping ceremony honored the charter.

School Lunch Menu Week of November 26 St

The rs Independent presents a school menu for Monday to Friday November 26 to 30. Entrees include Western spaghetti hamburger steak barbecued chicken and hamburgers or pimento cheese with sides such as green beans mashed potatoes rice and salads plus desserts. Milk is included each day.

Circle Meeting at St John’s Lutheran Church

Evening Circle met in the Education Building of St John’s Lutheran Church at 7:30 with Mrs. Frank Carter and Mrs. L R Hoppe as hostesses. Rev A W Holck led, scripture read from 1 Peter 3 13, Bible Study on Acts 6 and 7, stewardship emphasis, minutes and roll call, treasurer’s report, December meeting planned, new music bought, choir directed by Rev A W Holck, prayers and refreshments served to the group.

Thanksgiving Observed by Sub Deb Club in Brown Home

Thanksgiving was observed by the Sub Deb Club Monday evening at a dinner in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Pyburn Brown with Mrs. Brown as hostess. Attendees included Louise Davis, June Hays, Wayne Dobbins, Judy Smith, Judy Kettler, Ginger Gardner, Katherine Grissom, Susan Roberts, Sharon Johnson, Karen Knapp, Deanna Kozelsky, Wanda Powers, LaRoss Sheppard, June Puckett, Louise Adams, Judy E. Smith, Mary Young, Sharon Denson, Judy Williams, Jan Byrd and Sherry Stanford. The meeting adjourned with the benediction.

Mrs Nolan Cave accompanied by Mrs W B Lamb and children spent Thursday and Friday in Woodward Oklahoma visiting Mrs Lambs mother a patient in the hospital.

Local residents hosted visitors with weekend gatherings including the Heathcotts Broadstreet Morris Holders and Kirkland with Abilene and Abilene connections noted.

Mrs. Burton Hosts Chat and Sew Club Meeting

The Chat and Sew Club held its regular Tuesday afternoon meeting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Burton. Members shelled pecans for the hospitality and refreshments were served by Mmes. C. D. Bradfon, L Ernst, Billy B. George, Lonnie Buffed Hechler, and Mrs. Ed Donicg. Next meeting to be held November 27.
