A long list of visits and family events around Ballinger Texas includes residents from Hatchel Winthrop Ballinger and Abilene. Several friends and relatives travel to Fort Worth, Vernon, Bronte, Winters and Talpa for visits weddings and school events.
G C Torres Sr 39 died of an apparent heart attack while en route to Winters from San Angelo and died on arrival at Ballinger Memorial Hospital. Rosary was held Thursday night and a Friday mass at Mt Carmel Catholic Church with burial at Lakeview Cemetery. He was born December 23 1933 in Winters and lived there until seven years ago. He worked at service stations in Winters and Galveston and retired due to ill health. He married Esperanza Flores in 1952 at Sweetwater. Survivors include his father Pete Torres of Winters three sons Jose Guadalupe II and Daniel of Altus Oklahoma two sisters Mrs Pete Castillo and Mrs Andrew Ortega, both of Winters.
Sylvia Castillo and Johnny F. Garcia of Abilene married June 16 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Abilene. The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin T. Castillo, is a Winters native and Abilene High School grad employed by Region 14 ESC. The groom, son of Mrs. Maria Garcia and the late Mr. Garcia, works for Coy Williams Painting Contractors.
Mrs. Marilyn Klutie of Arlington and Hollis Lord of Richland Springs announce the engagement of their daughter Holly Lord of Arlington to James F. White of Winters. The wedding is set for July 13 at 8 p.m. at St Maria Goretti Church in Arlington. Holly Lord attends Tarleton State University and is an Arlington High School graduate. James White is a Winters High School graduate and Tarleton senior.
Deidra Templeton daughter of Mrs. Walter E. Templeton of Abilene and the late Mr Templeton married Garry Simmons recently at the temple home in Abilene. The Rev Grant Adams of Trinity Baptist Church officiated. Attendants were Mrs Glenn Best and Don Henry. The bride a Sweetwater High School graduate and Mineral Wells School of Vocational Nursing alumna works at Shady Oaks Rest Home. The groom a Abilene Christian High School graduate attended Cisco Junior College and works at Simmons Fruit Market.
Families from Abilene San Angelo Divide Odessa and Fort Worth gathered over Mother's Day weekend. Several patients listed include Charles McPeters at St John San Angelo Hube Lanier at Hendrick Abilene and Mark Hanna at Bronte. Attendees also joined a Third Tuesday Night Singing at Bronte Nursing Home.
Terry Lewis, a Hardin-Simmons University freshman from Winters, was elected secretary of Tau Alpha Phi at the university. He is a Winters High School graduate and the son of Mr and Mrs Albert Lewis of Winters.
Installation of new officers of the Junior Culture Club was held at the home of Mrs. Dale Whitecotton. Officers include Nancy Grundy president and Nancy Grundy listed among others. arts and crafts exhibit and bazaar benefited Winters Public Library.
Agriculture Commissioner J. C. White urged the Federal Office of Oil and Gas to secure immediate industry compliance with fuel guidelines. White said curtailments are already occurring despite the planned safeguards to assure adequate fuel for Texas agriculture.
The Mary Martha Group of the United Methodist Women met at the home of Mrs. Elmo Mayhew with Mrs. Cray ton Stanley presiding. Mrs. M. L. Dobbins led a program on Miracles of the Bible. attendees included Mesdames Gat tis Neely H. J. Hodge M. L. Dobbins Elmo Mayhew M. E. Leeman and guest Mrs. James Witt of Ballinger.
Mr and Mrs Frank Smith of Rome and Mr and Mrs Charles Smith of Atlanta spent a week visiting relatives in Rome with Mr and Mrs Ernest Brown, Mr and Mrs J F Brown and J S Brown and returned home Monday morning.
Guests at the David Bryan home last weekend included Kathy Hall from North Texas State College and Ed Hall Jr. of Dallas. Mrs. Virgil Low moved from North Runnels Hospital to Big Spring Hospital. The school program drew a large crowd. Jerry Bagwell of Ballinger and grandmother Mrs. Fisher visited Sunday with Mrs. W. N. Bagwell and others at the rest home. Wingate received rain Sunday night. Durham girls from Tye visited Leila Harter and Lola Dean Monday.
Laura Kay Herron and Johnny Mac Cathey plan to marry Aug 11 at the First United Methodist Church of Post. Laura Kay is a Post High School graduate and McMurry College student. Johnny Cathey also attends McMurry, graduate of Winters High School, both continuing studies this fall.
The Gator TOPS Club meeting at Humble Camp ended a six week contest with Shirley Hill and Maxine Pritchard as winners. Marie Romine won the piggy bank prize and a pink and blue shower honored Mrs Edward Poehls. Present were Mesdames Maxine Pritchard Shirley Hill Neta Hamilton Marie Romine Joan Poehis Rosalie Albro Tempie Powell Glenda Bryan and Pete Beck.
On May 10 the commissioner described Texas as in a critical period and warned that a fuel shortage could be disastrous to the 1973 crop season, stressing potential impacts on farming operations and harvest timelines.
The Ladies Aid Circle of St. John’s Lutheran Church met Thursday afternoon with Mrs. Herman Frick presiding. The program was led by Mrs. Herman Spill and devotional by Mrs. Ellis Ueckert. Twenty five members and one visitor attended. Birth announcement notes Roy and Mrs. Buchanan of Arlington welcomed son James Yancy. they also have son Kelly Lee.
