Edna Beth Hinds of Odessa selected for Bluebonnet Girls' State in Austin June 10 19. A Odessa High School junior with strong scholastic average leadership and activities she serves on Student Council NHS Thespian Society choir and annual staff. She also chairs Sunday School and plays piano for church junior choir.
J. R. Payne and daughter Pha la Sue of Dallas spent the weekend with brother T. G. Payne and other relatives. The Payne family were former Winters residents.
Edd Kinard and family visit Carlos Kinard in San Angelo after lung surgery at Shannon Hospital. Graduation exercises set for Thursday at 8 p.m. with Rev. Charlies Myers as speaker. Local social notes record appreciation banquet attendees, fishing tales, and visits by relatives from San Antonio Abilene Winters and Brownwood. Dood Self listed as deceased in California. Bud Brice hospitalized in Abilene.
The Goal Diggers Club held a yard party at sponsor Mrs. Spurgeon Parks home. Officers for 1959 60 were elected: Diane Buckner president Edna Lewallen secretary Nona Davidson treasurer Gwen Graham reporter Sandra Hord assistant reporter Nellie Lacy parliamentary Cecile Nitsch critic Nina Hord historian Virginia Foster. Camp plans gifts and goal kickers were announced. Mrs Parks and Mrs Cheek chosen as sponsors for next year. Farewell speeches were given by senior members.
Winters Country Club members gather at the club house on Thursday May 28 at 7 30 for a covered dish buffet and game party. Hostesses include Mesdames H L Way Homer Hodge Jr and Neal Oakes and members are asked to notify the hostesses if attending.
The Runnels County Farm Bureau held its regular May 21 meeting at 8 o'clock in Ballinger. President Marion Hays and secretary Pat McDaniel updated members on responses to letters to the Secretary of Labor and President Eisenhower about the labor bill and farm labor unionization. A committee was named to plan the upcoming barbecue and Queen contest, with Ed Cumbie and Jack B. Anderson as guest speakers.

After graduation he will work for the U S Agricultural Research Service in Jacksonville Florida on animal disease eradication and research.
