The Winters Enterprise lists publisher information and post office entry in Winters Texas. It includes subscription rates for different regions and a policy to correct erroneous reflections upon notice to the editor.
On February 20, 1901 Thomas W. Murray became postmaster of Winters in Runnels County, succeeding Robert L. Hulsey who had bought the store and post office from McDonald Townsend. The office moved across the street and a short history details Platte's 1889 store build and 1891 post office establishment.
The passage describes a fledgling general store with post office services, groceries, dry goods, and a blacksmith shop opened in 1891 by Mr. Higdon. It notes the January 1891 mail run from Ballinger to Abilene by Land Cade on horseback with stops at Winters and Guion, replacing trips to Runnels City for mail.
Ann Cooper became the bride of Kenneth Ray McCaslin in a May 3 ceremony at First Baptist Church Winters with parish and family members hosting. Attendants included Glenda Shields and Frances Cooper, with Bill Abbott and Randy Shields among the ushers. The couple, both with Texas connections, were joined by family from Winters and Van Nuys California.
Elmer Richard Morgan 54 of Fort Worth died May 5 at 1 15 p m in Veterans Hospital Dallas after a two week illness. Funeral at Liberty Assembly of God Church with Rev Coyce Pollard. burial Emerald Hills Cemetery. Survived by wife Rosa Lee two sons Randall Richard and Kenneth Dale one infant daughter preceded in death brothers Virgil Ray sisters Mary Watkins Helen Crenshaw Illa Murphy and several nieces and nephews. He was a World War II veteran and a Baptist. Born January 21 1921 near Cameron.
Sarah Eckols Dominguez formerly of Winters is named news editor of The Merkel Mail. She previously worked for The Winters Enterprise and The Abilene Reporter News and has held bookkeeping roles in New Mexico and Michigan.
Debi Madderra daughter of Rev and Mrs H C Madderra Ballinger and Marvin Lynn Clark son of Mr and Mrs Marvin Clark Winters announce their engagement. Debi is Ballinger High School 1974 graduate attending Angelo State University and employed at Irby Oil Company. Marvin is Ranger Junior College 1973 graduate set to graduate in May. Birth notice follows for Kristen Shea Hall born April 30 1975 in Hendricks Memorial Hospital Abilene weighing 6 pounds 14 ounces. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Richard Beck Fort Chadbourne and Mr and Mrs James D Hall Winters.
The United Methodist Women met in the church sanctuary at 9 30 a m Tuesday to hear Mrs Eric Roberts from the Isle of Man speak. Mrs Paul Gerhardt led the opening prayer with twenty three members and three visitors present including Mesdames Carl Harkin Eric Roberts and Miss Barbara Bolden of Houston.
The Winters Girl Scout Association announces Day Camp from June 2 to June 6 with activities from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Girls must register by May 15 and submit applications and fees to leaders. All adult leaders will complete three pre camp training sessions to qualify.
