Excerpts from Charisse Poe's book describe January 1880 petitions by 158 Coleman County voters to form Runnels County. The court ordered organization and a county seat election set for April 14, 1880. Maverick on the Colorado River led with 29 votes. Ebm Creek location received 24.

Bill Randall Stevens son of Mr and Mrs Billy Joe Stevens Winters received a bachelor’s degree in church music at McMurry commencement on Sunday May 3 in the J W Junt Physical Education Center. He is a 1971 Winters High School graduate with religion as his minor.
Loyd Von Byrd son of Mrs. Eva Jolley of Abilene earned a BBA degree in finance during Sunday afternoon commencement at the J W Junt Physical Education Center on the McMurry College campus in Abilene. Byrd is a 1971 graduate of Winters High School.
