Winters ISD dedication marks new school buildings
A community driven building program for Winters Independent School District adds more than half a million dollars in facilities. Contractors architects and local firms donated labor sand gravel cement and pipes to create a shaded arbor and sandpile area for younger students. The dedication program at 2:30 pm Sunday features Dr Thomas H. Taylor of Howard Payne College and a performance by the Winters High School Band.

Sandy Lowe, a high school sophomore, was named Queen of Hearts at a student assembly chosen by secret ballot from 14 candidates. The event featured a green carnation decorated stage, musical numbers, and was crowned by Lynn Bills Ups as associate editor with a bouquet from David Ledbetter and a crown carried by Magic Orr.

Lions Club hears chaplain Greer and plans charity drive
The Lions Club met Tuesday noon with Chaplain Greer speaking. Mr. Crawford of the State Blind Organization outlined the blind workers making brooms to raise funds. They set April 12 in Winters for a broom sale to benefit the Crippled Children's Camp at Kerrville. Mayor Allen announced pecan trees at Wolf's Nursery at 1.85 each and the club voted to buy about 50 trees for the park with help invited from other clubs. Charley West presided. Rev. Henry Flathmann led the pledge. Pace gave the thought. Wes Hays led singing. Rev. Marion Conditt gave the invocation. Guests included Franke Grevelle and Vester Parish.

Winters new school gym dedication set for March 6
A brick structure completing in January hosts a 1000-seat gym with two entrances, dressing rooms, rest rooms, padded rear walls, glass backstops, 36 ceiling lights, and PA system. McGuire Construction of Abilene built it. W C Hixson Co of Dallas installed the gym equipment. Public dedication Sunday invites community to tour the facilities.

Deadline set for filing names for school trustee
The school board designates March 24 as the filing deadline for candidates for the April 2 school board election. Incumbents John W. Norman and L. O. Byrd will not seek re election. A petition with twenty signatures names Raymond Lloyd and Audra L Mitchell. At the March 8 board meeting a polling place, judge, and clerk will be chosen.
