Visitors gather in Crews as harvest heats up
The Crews community hosts numerous visitors from Winters Abilene Midland Port land and San Antonio. Guests include Charles Allcorn Allison Brevard Hale groups from Winters and San Angelo with local visits by the Dietz family and relatives. Harvest time of wheat oats and barley is in full swing in the Crews community.

T B Mitchell 81 of Lockney died Tuesday in Lockney General Hospital after weeks ill. He was brother to Mrs Joe Baker and W A Mitchell of Winters. Funeral at First Baptist Church Lockney with Rev James Allison. burial Plainview Memorial Park with Masonic rites. Survivors include wife Ethel two sons Chester and R C two brothers W S of Levetland and W A Winters two sisters Ruth Mosley Garden City N Y and Joe Baker Winters eight grandchildren five great grandchildren.

William W. King 74 of Winters died Monday after a long illness. Funeral service is set for 3 p m Wednesday at Spill Memorial Chapel with Rev Johnnie Halford officiating. Burial in Crews Cemetery. Survivors include wife Gladys Madison two sons Weldon and Royce two daughters Doris Crim and Laney McNeill one brother Mancie three sisters two stepbrothers two stepsisters 13 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Pallbearers named. King was born January 9 1896 in Crews and lived in Runnels County most of his life. He served in World War I and was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Raymon Barnes 31 of Winters dies while trying to swim to shore with 8 year old Jay Neal Cunningham and J L Stogner 34 of Fort Worth after they disappeared in deep water at Littlefield Bend near Mineral Wells. Bodies recovered from about 20 feet of water. Barnes funeral held in Spill Memorial Chapel with burial in Truitt Cemetery. Survivors include his parents four brothers and four sisters.
