Mrs. T. J. Grimes and Mrs. Lizzie Barrington visited with aunt Minta Grimes in Blackwell on Monday. Numerous relatives from San Angelo San Antonio Talpa Jayton Odessa and Nolan spent weekends visiting family members and grandchildren in the area.
Mrs G P Teague 86 longtime Ballinger resident and mother of Mrs Doyle Pumphrey Winters died January 16 in an Austin hospital after a long illness. Services were at First Presbyterian Austin with graveside at Evergreen Ballinger. Survivors include three daughters, two sisters, two brothers, 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
The Merrill Nursing Home posted plans for a ballot box to choose a King and Queen of Hearts on February 1 with a Valentine party set for February 14. Mrs. Fannie Roberts died January 25, and sympathies are extended to her family. A church program on Prayer and Self Denial was led by several members, and Winters String Band performed for residents. Out of town visitors included Anette Sanders Janette Duncan Mord Tucker and the Pillion and Louderbach families visiting relatives. The First United Methodist Church women organized a program with readings and prayers led by multiple members, under the direction of Rev Bob Lindsey.
The Junior Culture Club met Thursday in the Church of Christ Fellowship Hall. Guest speaker Mrs. Charlisse Poe reviewed her book Angel of Papagos. Members listed include Mrs. Dottie Loudermilk Linda Graves Barbara Reese Dianne Davis Matthiel Russell Bonnie Hood Pat Hambright Wanda Sims Gayle Sweyer Cindy Smith Christine Bishop Mona White Rhea Parramore and Miss Nancy Grundy. Plans for the Spring Crafts Show were discussed and March 22 23 were set as the dates.
Travis S. Jordan 76 died at 4 a.m. January 24 in St. John’s Hospital San Angelo. Funeral service was Sunday at Spill Memorial Chapel with Rev. David Crooks officiating. Burial in Lakeview Cemetery. Survived by wife Hazel Haynes two siblings and a sister, with pallbearers named.

Virden 85 died at 10 45 p m January 23 in North Runnels Hospital Funeral services were Saturday at 2 p m in Spill Memorial Chapel with Rev Virgil James and Rev Charles Meyers officiating Burial in Fairview Cemetery She was born Flora Eller July 31 1889 in Pikesville Tennessee moved to Texas at age three later to New Mexico where she married J E Virden December 1 1907 The family moved to Wilmeth Community near Winters in 1920 where she had lived 55 years She was a Wilmeth Baptist Church member Survivors include a son Gene and three daughters seven grandchildren ten great grandchildren Pallbearers listed Also birth notice for Robertta Kathlene January 14 in San Angelo Clinic Hospital weight 5 5 pounds grandparents listed and related families
