Valley Creek Water Control District to Elect Directors

The Valley Creek Water Control District will elect four directors on Tuesday January 10. Voting sites are Wingate for residents north of the Winters Bronte FM Road 384 and North Norton for residents south of it. Holdover directors include Hugo Vogelsang and Adolph Minzenmayer. Directors may be chosen from district property owners, with terms expiring for Duncan Hensley Milton Jackson L. O. Byrd and G. G. Franks. Work on watershed protection and flood prevention is expected to start this spring after boundary corrections and a validating act.

Patrolman Added To Winters Police Force

Ray Heathcott named as patrolman on the Winters police force by Mayor Harvey D. Jones this week. He had previously served on the Winters force but left for other lines of work for several months.

Libbe Re-Elected Local C of C Leader and 1961 Directors

A. W. Libbe was re-elected president of the local chamber of commerce board of directors. Homer Hudgins as vice president, John W. Norman as treasurer, and Mrs. B. B. Bedford continuing as secretary and acting manager. A 1961 director slate includes Libbe and others. holdovers listed. The Winters FFA 4 H Livestock Show on January 7 features cattle sheep swine and capons with showmanship and division trophies. Dickie Hale Named Girl of the Month for December

Dickie Hale was elected Girl of the Month for December by the FHA in the meeting held after school on December 14. A letter from the Chamber of Commerce was read and Dickie Hale reported on the concession stand for the Boys' Basketball Tournament. FHA pictures were taken in the Homemaking cottage.

Winters Library Marks 8th Year With January Offer

Winters Public Library enters its eighth year offering a January special family membership of 1.50 instead of 2.00. After joining, each family member may borrow up to four books for two weeks. The library, housed in the American Legion Hall, is open Wednesdays and Saturdays 2 to 5 pm. Local clubs contribute support and funds fund new books and supplies.

J C Williams In Critical Condition After Stroke

J C Dick Williams of Houston former Winters resident suffered a stroke Friday at work and remains in critical condition at Houston Veterans Hospital. His mother Mrs. Birdie Williams and sister Annie Williams of Abilene are with him.
