Winters High School Band Joins All State Clinic
More than 350 high school bands players and director Robert R. Gans gather at McMurry College Abilene for Region 11 auditions. Students perform scales and sight reading for judges. 37 bands compete with 23 instruments. All Region and All State selections announced at Radford Auditorium. The All Region Band rehearses in the afternoon for the evening concert.

End of 1961 Cotton Harvest Nears in Local Area
Dry calm spells have sped the cotton harvest with local gins busy and bales piling as farmers worked the remaining cotton. Observers note most picking is done this week after earlier wet weather slowed harvest. Winters gins had ginned 6254 bales up to Wednesday while nearby gins report rising processing, with some cotton arriving from Divide in Nolan County as gins stayed covered during the window of good weather.

Flames Burn Trio to Death in Home Tragedy
Mrs. Johnnie Bankston suffered first and second degree burns while trying to rescue her three children from a two room frame house fire at 10 30 a m. Neighbors and Mrs Ruby Lee Walker’s visitor smothered the flames in her hat and tried to help but the back door was nailed shut. The three children Priscella Loucella and the baby died in the blaze.
