Mrs W L Collins Presided For VFW Auxiliary Meeting

Mrs W L Collins past auxiliary president presided over the regular VFW Auxiliary meeting at the post home. A committee including Mrs C C Paske, Mrs John King and Mrs Wallace Watson will assist in fundraising for the TB Association. Paske announced December honor roll and Muscular Dystrophy canisters placed in business locations.

Winters group aids families with holiday donations

Mrs. J. G. Emmert Sr. announced four baskets of food and toys were delivered December 23 to needy families. Mrs. Wallace Watson won the door prize and was chosen honor roll chairman for January. The group voted to donate to the polio foundation and Gonzales Warm Springs in January. A box sent to Big Spring Veterans Hospital included books, cakes, cookies, and candy. Those present were Mesdames Watson, Sellers, Emmert Sr., Bates, Paske, Breeding, and Collins.

Henderson, Retired Farmer, Dies at 78 in Winters

Otis Finis Henderson 78, a retired farmer, died early Sunday at his Winters home after months of illness. He was born February 23, 1881, near Cleburne, Texas, lived in Taylor County and Hamby community, and retired last year. Funeral Tuesday at 10:30 in Hamby Church of Christ. He is survived by Elma Henderson. three sons Floyd E., Otis W., Leslie W.. three brothers. nine grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs Grover C Murphy 67 of Wingate were held Thursday at 2 00 pm in Spill Memorial Chapel with Rev Virgil James officiating Burial was in Wilmeth cemetery She died Tuesday morning in Winters Municipal Hospital after years of arthritis She was born Nellie Lee Kelsay on July 23 1892 in Collin County Texas and later lived near Ballinger Runnels County She married May 25 1914 in Ballinger Surviving are husband three sons G W Murphy Frank Matthews Raymond Matthews a daughter Ed Pheels two sisters two brothers 11 grandchildren and three great grandchildren

Bridwell Golden Wedding Anniversary Celebrated at Open House

Mr and Mrs E G Bridwell celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary with an open house December 27 at the home of Mr and Mrs J B Whitlow. Approximately 120 guests registered with Carolyn Nelson at the guest book. The couple, born in 1888 and 1884, married in 1909 and have lived in Hunt and Runnels counties before settling in Winters.

Former Residents Celebrate 50th Anniversary of Morelands

Mr and Mrs Everett Moreland of Midland longtime Winters residents marked their 50th wedding anniversary on a December 25 gathering at the Odessa home of their daughter in law. Guests included children and grandchildren from Midland and Odessa as the couple recalled a life connected to Winters and later farms near Midland.

A Christmas covered dish luncheon for the Fidelis Sunday School Class was held at the home of Dr. and Mrs. T. V. Jennings. The table featured white linen and evergreen decorations with red candlelight. Dr. Jennings showed Montana earthquake and scenery films, with several class members listed as attendees.

Former Resident Injured In Car Accident Near Raton

Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Eager and children of Lubbock formerly Winters residents were injured when their car hit a bridge abutment near Raton New Mexico. They received emergency care at Raton and returned home Sunday en route to Denver to visit their daughter Delora Wood.

Family injured in car crash leaves vehicle a total loss

Mr. Eager reports his nose and several ribs broken along with minor injuries to his wife and one child and a daughter with a minor neck injury. The car was a total loss and he called his parents after the accident.
