Texas Highway Department announces a 1957 highway work program in Runnels County with J A Snell noting projects on U S 83 from Hatchel to Ballinger 7.5 miles and from Ballinger to Concho County line 11.4 miles plus F M 53 Wingate to Winters 17.1 miles and F M 1692 from Tom Green County line to Miles 3.9 miles. Planned work includes asphalt surfaces and seals with costs ranging from 5 000 to 25 000 and work to begin after final planning.

In a letter from Capt Glenna Briley stationed at Augsburg Germany she describes Operation Safe Haven in Munich 42 miles from Augsburg. Eight American nurses assist with the relief effort as Hungarians arrive then fly to the United States. Nurses provide translation food medical care and help settle the refugees with support from Red Cross volunteers and donors across Germany. The Hungarians express gratitude for the aid and warm clothing provided despite aging items. Beto comes from the Latin meaning I forbid.
