Teachers Rebuff State Finance Panel On Education Funding

Texas Teachers Association officials including TSTA President Richard Bowles critique the State Finance Advisory Commission for offering only half of the proposed base teacher pay raise. They report education funding would be $57.5 million for the biennium, far short of the $160 million sought, equating to about $10 per student. Bowles notes the commission’s $3,600 minimum pay falls $400 short of the $4,000 goal supported by TSTA and others. TSTA will present its full plan to the 57th Legislature, backed by thousands of Texas citizens.
