Safety Sunday Campaign to Cut Holiday Traffic Toll

The holiday drive for careful driving will launch on Safety Sunday December 11 with help from multiple groups including the Texas Press Association. Governor notes the goal to awaken drivers to heed Thou shalt not kill and cites past successes lowering deaths from 111 predicted to 91 last season. Aged care programs seek $10 million yearly increase for old age assistance and state help for medical expenses, plus transfer of certain elderly patients from mental hospitals to nursing homes.

Bond sale canceled and dam site recommended in Texas news

Veterans Land Board cancels this month’s bond sale after criticism from Land Commissioner-Elect Jerry Sadler. The veto stems from low interest ceilings and delays while Millican Brazos County is named as a dam site for the Lower Navasota Reservoir with an estimated 44 million dollars cost and a 1970 completion. The Texas Supreme Court refused to review a ruling on Duval County Democratic Party chairman bid by George Parr after a recount.

Runnels County Seeks Bids for Warehouse Building Construction

State's general revenue fund sinks to deficit on treasurer report

The state general revenue fund shows a deficit of 76.7 million dollars per the treasurer. The deficit grew by 10 million dollars in three weeks while the state nets 636 thousand dollars from the sale of 119.4 million board feet of timber and other forest uses. Funds will be distributed across 11 East Texas counties hosting the forests.

Adolph Gottschalk a Caserslautern American High School commercial teacher spent Thanksgiving in Berlin visiting west and east sectors and also toured Switzerland. Fort Worth visitors Mr. and Mrs. John Kuykendall and Johnny plus Mr. and Mrs. Don Lindley and Cary Don of Ballinger were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Lindley.
