Dove Disease Survey Launched in Texas doves
Texas Parks and Wildlife biologists launched a statewide dove survey to gauge trichomoniasis incidence among doves and pigeons. In eight North Central Texas counties and four Rolling Plains counties sampled in early August, 123 birds were examined with five adults carrying the parasite. Local outbreaks have occurred in prior years with higher rates, but the current cross‑state study aims to assess overall threat to dove populations and hunting areas.

Disease in Birds Leads to Starvation and Death
Trichomoniasis spreads rapidly in the flock causing swallowing difficulties and distress. Birds die soon from starvation or asphyxiation as the illness progresses.
