Local girl Amelia de la Cruz dies from crash injuries
Amelia de la Cruz 16 died Sunday at San Antonio's Santa Rosa Hospital after an auto wreck that killed her parents the Rev. and Mrs. Juan Pedro de la Cruz and two brothers. Funeral service held at Winters First Baptist Church with burial at Lakeview Cemetery beside relatives. Four other de la Cruz children remain hospitalized in San Antonio.

Funeral Monday For Mrs. Morris Longtime Citizen
Funeral services for Mrs. Cora Ione Morris were held at 2 p m Monday at Spill Memorial Chapel with Rev. J S Tierce and Rev F R Cole presiding. Burial followed in Fairview Cemetery. Born July 19 1891 in Scurry County she lived on a Winters area farm, later moving to Winters in 1959. She married Levi L. Lewis in 1908 and Louis Morris later. one daughter, a sister, two brothers, three grandchildren and six great grandchildren survive. She died Sunday at Winters Municipal Hospital after a two week illness.

Leroy Brooks Wins Feature and Consolation Races
Leroy Brooks of Winters won both the feature and consolation events at Abilene Speed Arena Saturday night driving a 1955 Chevrolet with a 301 engine. He ran three races but was knocked out of one by a competing car and is slated to race next Saturday in Abilene and Friday in Odessa. Fellow Winters driver Tommy Blackmon expects to have his car ready for Abilene by Saturday night and will enter the events.
