The Tennessee Coal and Iron company raises Southern pig iron by 1 per ton marking the fourth jump in two months totaling 75. The firm also boosts miners' wages by 15 percent for its 40,000 workers, a move that sets wage scales for about 100,000 men in the district.
Denver June 29 ex marshal C A Carpenter of Colfax and his brother Oscar were arrested at Como on charges of assaulting and robbing William Middleton an elderly market gardener Monday night. Of the 600 dollars stolen 544 was recovered in the possession of the Carpenter family identified by stitching marks on Middleton s clothing.
A man faces charges of manslaughter in the first degree after the death of his sparring partner Con Riordan during an exhibition bout in a city arena. Prosecutors allege a fatal blow caused the fatal injuries leading to Riordan's death.
Frank Jerast is found guilty of murder in the first degree for the killing of Sid J. Jack man. The sentence will be pronounced before the term ends.

He defended Rome and called the claim a malicious lie.
A Thatcher reservoir dam gave way at 5 pm near La Junta Colorado flooding the surrounding country east and filling Timpas creek and canyons. The Santa Fe bridge over Timpas creek six miles west of La Junta may wash out. The reservoir held 26 million gallons and drained foothills for miles with many wagon roads washed away. no deaths reported yet.
In Hagreton Pa on June 29 Governor Hastings was hung in effigy from a pole on a main street over anger at his veto of the Quay county bill. The figure was cut down by order of Mayor Altmiller at 11 o'clock despite cooler heads disapproval.
Father Christy of Minneapolis is appointed bishop of the Sioux Falls diocese to succeed Bishop Marty, transferred to St Cloud. He has ordered a diocesan census to identify Catholics and supporters, with heads of families and other information for church needs. The offer to Father O Gorman of Washington was declined. the choice satisfies the diocese.

Stilwater Minnesota June 29 C T Goodrich of this city arrested for alleged fraudulent tallying of logs by using a scale different from that given by the scaler defrauding owners of thousands of feet of logs. Practice said to have run for years with losses estimated at up to 100000. One accomplice has confessed and more arrests may follow.
A German steamship belonging to the Kurfurs region suffered a fatal explosion killing seven sailors and wounding several others. The Friedrich VI and other allied ships in the vicinity lowered their flags to half mast to honor the victims.
The Northwest Chautauqua commenced its session at Devils Lake today under the Devils Lake Chautauqua association and will run through July 2. Dervis Laxs, N. T., June 29.
Two young girls Puffe aged 8 and Annie Kseger aged 15 left home on the West Side and were found dead at midnight buried under 15 tons of sand and rock. An inquest will be held to determine the cause.
In a dispute from Startanberg, State Constables Pettigrew and Toland fought two moonshiners named Fisher and Durham. Durham and Fisher were killed. Pettigrew was shot through the lungs and likely to die. The report alleges a confrontation between lawmen and suspects during a June incident.

Younastown Ohio June 29 Secretary Nutt of the Iron Manufacturing association and President Garland of the Amalgamated association arranged the details of the scale signed by Amalgamated men and manufacturers in conference. No important changes were made and the scale is arranged for the coming year beginning August 1 when the present scale expires.
Winshee April 29. The Manitoba legislature concluded its session and was prorogued by Lt. Gov. Sir John Schultz. A bill prohibiting streetcar service on Sundays in Winnipeg and other Manitoba towns was adopted, provoking strong indignation locally.
