Floods Paralize Rail Service Across Midwest Roads

Large rains hit Wisconsin Iowa and Illinois causing landslides and washouts that crippled rail traffic. St Paul Chicago lines down with two major landslides near Dubuque. Milwaukee and Omaha routes delayed. Decorah Iowa flood damage noted.

Town Floods Pecorah Iowa After Ten Days Rain

A significant stream overflowed in Pecorah Iowa flooding the southern and eastern parts of town. Fences, sheds and movable structures were carried away, no lives were lost, but business halted as residents watched floodwaters tear through streets. Ten days of continual rain totaled 8.4 inches, with washouts and wrecked bridges affecting rail service on two lines.

Turbulent Thursday Storm Ravages Chicago Area

A major storm dumped over three inches of rain on Chicago and nearby regions. Sewers burst flooding basements. stores report about 150000 dollars in stock damage. River traffic halted as the harbor currents surged. thirty five miles of streets rendered impassable and rail lines washed out beyond the city. Crop losses include wheat and oats, with corn less affected. A cyclone in Harvey, Illinois, toppled a dozen houses injuring several but no deaths reported.

Explosion at Ottumwa fruit store shocks occupants

In Ottumwa Iowa on June 25 an explosion at A Trantnella fruit store shattered the storefronts of his shop and the neighboring building. A gasoline stove in the basement used to ripen bananas caused the blast. Occupants were prostrated and bruised, narrowly escaping flames. J Gramaro was hurled against a wall while Vonrad Keim was lifted from a barber chair into the room.

Cyclone and Waterspout Hit Chickasaw County Iowa

News from Mason City Iowa reports a cyclone and waterspout passing over Frederick township killing one resident and fatally injuring two others. The CMStP railroad bridge between Monona and McGregor washed away causing heavy losses to farming interests.

Williams divorce case returns for alimony move

Affidavits claim the defendant’s worth ranges from 847,000 to 1,600,000, while the plaintiff cites 100,000 to 160,000 in property.

Pinkertons Clash With Strikers in Cleveland Riot

Pinkerton guards and East Cleveland street railway workers clashed in the evening. Eldred, a Chicago Pinkerton, fired into the crowd. a waterman was hit. Strikers overpowered the Pinkertons, who fled. Eldred later found on the tracks with a cracked skull and broken ribs. He was taken to hospital. Palacio, an exiled Venezuelan political leader, arrived at Martinique en route to Europe.

Trains Telescoped in Harrisburg Fatal Crash

A Pennsylvania Railroad accident near Dock Street bridge in Harrisburg killed thirteen people and seriously injured about forty as two sections of a passenger train collided. The second section failed to stop, the Pullman car Glen Eyre carried a Westinghouse party, and several Westinghouse individuals were not seriously harmed. Engineers and firemen escaped injury, and victims were moved to a hospital in heavy rain.

A blaze consumed the Commercial hotel in Bangor California in the evening killing six guests and injuring several others. Details are unavailable pending investigation.
