Multiple Disasters Across Cities From June 20 Reports

A string of deadly and injurious rail and building incidents reported June 20 across the United States. In Birmingham, Ala, a Pratt Mines train wreck killed two men and injured about 100 as cows on the track triggered a derailment. A Pittsburg, Cincinnati and St. Louis line train jumped the track near Steubenville, killing two and injuring seven, with a freight collision following the wreck. In Philadelphia, a falling roof injured several spectators during a Somerset Street event, while another accident saw a rowboat collision with a schooner off Red Bank, drowning a young woman. Petersburg, Va, reported a freight train derailment and all-day southbound mail delays. Additional incidents included a near-wreck in Wasasa, Ind, an off-track freight accident in Newark, N J, and a hurricane demolishing a church in Charlotte County, NC. Legal notes and other items include a justifiable homicide ruling in Montgomery, sunstroke death in Sioux City, and industrial developments in California and New Hampshire.

Beaver Commission Plans Large Relief for Johnstown Sufferers

Governor Beaver leads a three hour Pittsburg commission session deciding that Johnstown should receive about 76 to 80 percent of a $1,000,000 relief loan. Plans include 500 ready made houses and swift relocation to Hor. Eastern valley sufferers also discussed. the group elected Beaver chairman and Stevens secretary. The panel stressed that money available may not meet all needs.
