Fergus Falls Minn June 18 The Fifth district Farmers alliance held a convention with 150 delegates. R J Hall of Stevens county presided E H Atwood of Stearns county served as secretary A secret ballot showed 106 for independent ticket to 9 against Sessions heard by T C Hodgson and Eric Olson with Olson urging action. Plowman elected president and Halverson of Stearns county nominated for congress but declined.
Rumors of a purchase by Northern Pacific Railroad are confirmed. The Chicago and Calumet Terminal is to be consolidated with the Chicago and Great Western, Michigan Central terminal property, under Wisconsin Central management in a New York closing. The deal’s price is not disclosed.
In Butte on June 13 the mine shaft at Anaconda and St Lawrence neared completion of the wrecking work begun weeks earlier. The 800 foot level revealed the bodies of Page Sullivan and Dolan, missing since November 19, in excellent preservation though slightly swollen. Two more bodies lay 200 feet below at the shaft bottom awaiting recovery.
Denver carpenters strike in mid June, about twelve hundred workers quit to support 400 machine wood workers and bench mill men already off for a month. They demand nine hours of work with ten hours pay, halting all building operations. hod carriers and timers expected to join.

The South Dakota Medical Society held its ninth annual meeting in Sioux City with a banquet honoring the attendees. Local doctors were recognized for their contributions as the society convened in June.
An Ashland Wis report states a lumberman drowned while running logs on the Montreal River west of Hurley during a river drive. The incident occurred amid graduation exercises at West Point and involved cadets and officials in attendance.

In the Senate on June 18 Mr Dolphi introduced a bill to appropriate 200000 dollars to establish a branch home for volunteer soldiers in Oregon.
Storms from June 13 to June 18 brought heavy rain hail and wind to Auburn Jamestown Corry Cincinnati and nearby areas. Flooding washed out rail lines and streets damaged sewers and water works and caused several deaths and injuries. Estimated losses run into thousands with major impacts on housing infrastructure and public utilities.
A blaze started around 4 PM at the Astor hotel, its upper story catching fire from a connecting alley. Firefighters extinguished the blaze after causing about 10,000 dollars in damage. A dozen rooms on the upper floor were ruined.

Gen Ruger says only one arrest has been made in Ranchman Ferguson's murder and there was no resistance. Indians surrendered their man quietly. He dispatched two infantry companies from Fort Keogh to near the Rosebud agency as a precaution to reassure settlers. No outbreak has occurred despite hostilities between whites and Indians, beyond Ferguson's murder last May.
Special from Little Rock reports Chief J B Mayes will likely call an extra Cherokee legislature session to consider leases to cattlemen that the United States voided and ordered the stock removed. U.S. Proclamation gave lessees until October to vacate with $100000 due. Cherokees demand deduction for time allowed. Cattlemen delegation met with Chief Metios and learned a special session would decide the issue.

Bacon arrives from New York and will pay Maryland between 1.2 and 1.8 million dollars for the state held Baltimore and Ohio stock He will then settle with Hopkins University for the capital stock bought He declines to name syndicate partners but says the public will be told after all transactions are completed the interests in the 6 million plus stock deal
Montreal June 13 Judge Dennoyer weighs whether to discharge C C Hale who is in custody for shooting Eugene Cowles of Cleveland. Cowles’s statement largely clears Hale but the judge delays release to pursue an assault charge.
Havana June 13 official statement lists 88 dead from the May 17 blast. Of these 33 were commercial firemen and nonfire personnel, 8 more firemen, 3 citizens, and 1 unidentified. Public relief subscriptions and a memorial fund for victims have gathered over 10,000 dollars so far.
In Philadelphia during a June thunderstorm, Inspector William Lamond of the custom house spotted an attempt to smuggle 400 bottles of brandy from the German steamer Energie while patrolling Point Breeze. The vessel, loaded with oil, was prevented from sailing. the seizure is the largest on the riverfront in years.
A Sherman Texas dispatch reports Potisboro, eleven miles northwest of Sherman, along the Missouri Pacific railroad, in ashes after a wave of burglary and arson. Thirteen large business houses were robbed and set afire. total loss remains unknown.
