A severe northwest cyclone floods Luverne Minnesota as Rock River widens to one to three miles. Hundreds of cattle and livestock drown and fields of wheat are ruined. Rescuers are capsized but save others. J W Catterson dies. lightning damages buildings. railroads wash away tracks. losses rise to about 200000 dollars.

Severe Storms Roar Across Northwest With Hail and Cyclones

Severe weather swept Wisconsin Illinois Iowa Kansas Nebraska South Dakota Michigan with heavy rain and cyclonic activity. In Chicago three hail storms dropped shells and gravel. Hyde Park residents counted a peck in one spot. A cyclone near Virgill South Dakota damaged homes injuring Irvin Daley. Peoria saw flood damage and stockyards suffered. Springfield endured a violent rainstorm marking a severe regional bout.

Four Die As Kansas Storm Floods Leavenworth Area

A cloud burst in Leavenworth caused four drownings as water gushed through cellars and culverts and damaged property. Dennis Desmond and Michael Desmond along with Dennis Cummings and Eugene Cummings, all 11, perished in a stone culvert while escaping the storm. In Wichita a hail siege ravaged southern Kansas cornfields and left roadsides littered with dead birds.

Northwestern Wisconsin reports say Glenwood area flooded after a dam break and bridges for about 20 miles damaged. No lives reported. Separate item notes a lightning bolt disables electric lines from St Paul to Minneapolis, melting over 380 iron poles.

Niagara Water Power Sale Shocks Erie Canal Region

Schoellkopf & Co sold their entire plant and water power privileges to Morton Bliss & Co of New York for 4 million dollars. Governor Morton leads the purchasing firm and it is believed the firm will bond the purchase for 10 million. Canal water and mill privileges were acquired by J F Schoellkopf in the early 1880s for 76 thousand.

Slaughter by Cossacks in St. Petersburg Riot

A Vienna dispatch reports a coronation day riot on Nevski prospekt in St. Petersburg. Cossacks charged the drunken crowd, stones flew, and saber and gunfire followed. 250 were killed or wounded and about 500 arrested.
