Charles H Darling retires as assistant secretary of the navy

Charles H. Darling retires Tuesday October 24 from the office of assistant secretary of the navy a post held since December. He will be succeeded by Truman H of Detroit Michigan who took the oath and will oversee the department as the new secretary. The court of appeals at Albany denied a motion for reargument in the case of Albert T Patrick convicted of murder and death sentence in 1910. Patrick’s execution date remains uncertain as appeals proceed.

Village Water Supply to Be Greatly Increased by New System

Sunset Lake Water Company plans a major expansion by developing Stickney Brook water rights and linking to Chestnut Hill's main. A 12 inch pipe will deliver about 2 million gallons daily from Stickney Brook to Pleasant Valley, with a new reservoir at the Atkinson farm and connections to Chestnut Hill facilities. The project includes a permanent Sunset Lake reservoir and upgrades to Chestnut Hill mains, supported by a state health report urging pollution safeguards for tributaries.

Prison Hearing At Windsor Delayed To November Ninth

A Windsor prison hearing was adjourned with counsel to reconvene on Thursday November 9. The proceeding covered testimonies from Mary Bogers Eva Parker and others regarding alleged misconduct by guards and officers, and included a sensational claim about embalming fluids used on a convict. Witnesses discussed prior incidents at the prison and the investigation led by Attorney General Clarke C Fitts. Local officials reported on liquor prescriptions in Brattleboro and deer hunting fatalities as well as missing person cases in Rutland and surrounding towns.

Kilburn Killed in Wallingford Construction Fall

Kilburn died after falling from the staging at Wallingford Town Hall where he was overseeing construction. Jock Towskey witnessed the accident and called for aid, but Mr Kilburn died minutes later. He was 38 and survived by his wife and five siblings. Funeral planned at New Wallingford today.
