Funeral of George Edward Bushnell One of Main Street's oldest merchants
The funeral for George Edward Bushnell, the oldest merchant on Main street, was held this afternoon with services at Mt. Hebron and a later procession to the cemetery. A large floral tribute from Gilpen Langdon & Co and Union Fire Company marked the service, with Rev. W L Seabrook delivering the sermon from Psalm xc 12. The Masonic lodge led a ceremonial procession at the grave, after which mourners laid sprigs of evergreen and bid farewell.

Last night three marriages occurred in the city and a county ceremony took place yesterday afternoon. Rev. S. D. Skelton officiated at the White Hall home as Emma T. Hott wed Albert L. Anderson with Ada Colbert playing the wedding march. The bride wore white organdie with satin ribbon, and roses were carried by the wedding party. Relatives and friends from Martinsburg Hagerstown and the county attended.

Friendship Fire Company Holds Rainy Monthly Meeting
Despite heavy rain Friendship Fire Company gathered for the regular meeting. Committees reported completion of tasks and were discharged. A letter from Virginia State Firemen's Association secretary Cummings urged delaying the September 99 annual meeting due to wartime conditions. The group approved the postponement and planned a fall excursion possibly to Staunton. They discussed inviting the company to Staunton’s Fourth of July celebration and formed a committee to finalize details. Bills totaling eight dollars were approved for payment. Ashby Camp may use the band uniforms to outfit a drum corps. Fred Grim was elected a member. Adjourned.
