The Latest Local Events notes a firemen's parade tonight and pay day on the B and O Railroad tomorrow. Many residents return from trips to Baltimore, Charlestown, Lexington, and other towns, with updates on illnesses and social visits in Spring Gardens, Bartonsville, and nearby streets.
Messrs H H Baker and W S White visited Martinsburg on business. Evans Hotel lathing nears completion with only the first floor office unfinished. Miss Jennie Flowers of Gainesboro is improved from neuralgia. Jr Chillsmore of Martinsburg visiting relatives here. John Rosenberger suffers a heavy cold from Woodstock. W R Stephenson hosts a whist party on Washington Street. C F Hampton shipped a carload of horses to Philadelphia. Presley McDonald loyal to Bryan. C S W Barnes back to Staunton after business here. Misses Mamie Hamilton and Emma Smith visiting Mrs. Robert Smith. M K Dean of Stephens City ships two carloads of hay to Pennsylvania. Thomas Lillis heads to Johns Hopkins Hospital for treatment. Mrs. R T Barton and son return from Baltimore. J W Richards and wife return from wedding trip to Washington. Mrs. Eliza Pugh returns home from Baltimore. J W Affleck and Harry Keckley install new corn meal mill machinery on Valley Pike. M Bohemian and family arrive. Bohemian to locate here. Local firemen show great activity for tonight's proceedings. C W Hansel returns home.
Alexander and Alexander sue S. H. Hansbrough trustee and Clark Maxwell in circuit court over a $5000 attorney fee. The case before Judge Nicol this afternoon marks the contention with R E Byrd for the plaintiffs and Bartoh Boyd for the defendants, A C Carson also representing Maxwell. The action seeks recovery of the fee and will be submitted for decision.
Cards Out. marriage notice appears for Wilden and Lather with bride's father Mr Gee of Forney, No 110 Second Street, Borough West Virginia, on the verge of the event.
A telegram from Supt Lynn of Richm penitentiary reports Elmer Weatherholtg Weatherholm fatally shot by a guard after attacking officers last night. The wounded inmate died in the prison hospital, ending his crime spree.
Warrant sworn against Moke Ailstock for stealing a blank and whip from Ralph Savage's horse and buggy behind his store. Lap robes found in Ailstock's possession. he claims Henry McCamey left them in his care. Ailstock held for identification. Ed. J. Wilwig posted $25 bail to appear at 7 this evening.
A group of young ladies and gentlemen hosted a surprise at Gertie and Katie Hahn’s home near the city. The evening featured games and music, with refreshments served around 1 o clock. Attendees included Maggie Crisman Lula Williams Jobo Criseman Walter McCauley Ruel Bhersdule Harry Keckley Jehu Sloat Carrie Gregory Alice Car Maude Steele Bessie Wil Cadwallader Burg and others from Stephens City.
George William Castleman, about 70, a well known resident near Brucetown, died suddenly at Mr Butler’s residence on the Martinsburg pike about two and a half miles from the city yesterday evening. Dr Miller attended but could not help. He served as county surveyor of Frederick County and had a good education. Quiet and inoffensive, he had many friends.
